The University of Iowa has been having difficulty in solving the problem of binge drinking on weekends. One group of students thinks they have a solution. Glen Mueller reports.

It’s Thursday evening in Iowa City. That means you can go to the bars downtown, drink in your apartment, and worship? This is Campus Crusade for Christ, also known simply as Cru. Iowa’s Campus Director for Cru is Charlie Schaller.

Crusade is actually the largest sending missionary organization in the world. Um, it is 50,000 full-time staff members like myself, uh, hundreds of thousands of involved students, and tens of millions of trained volunteers.

At Iowa, Cru’s meetings include guest speakers, a band, fellowship, and other things, like door prizes.

Behind me, Cru is having their weekly Thursday night session. The group meets in the second floor ballroom of the IMU at 9 P.M.

Seated in the crowd tonight is Kate Langtim. Kate is in her third year of coming to Cru.

It’s a good way for me to connect because it’s with people my age and people that are going through similar things that I am, so Cru is just kind of a refreshing time of the week for me.

While Cru is a religious organization, its meetings are open to anybody.

Cru says that it is their goal to have each person on the Iowa campus know somebody who truly follows Jesus. Perhaps you already do. For Daily Iowan TV, I’m Glen Mueller.

Cru’s meetings usually last around one hour, and they hold other events periodically.
